Iconic Fashion in Abell’s Spring 2018 Luxury Auction
The upcoming April 2018 luxury auction features clothing, shoes and accessories by Chanel, Fendi, Yves St. Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Judith Leiber and much more.
Abell Auction Co. is proud to present our upcoming spring 2018 luxury auction. This sale features designer goods, vintage jewelry and clothing, fine glassware and sterling appointments. Abell is uniquely situated in the nation’s second largest art market, which provides a constant influx of quality appointments from prominent Southern California estates. Abell offers a stunning array of precious jewelry, gems and collectibles through our live gallery and online auctions.
The April sale features multiple Chanel clothes and purses, including a rare black & white sequin jacket that was part of a 2005 fashion exhibition at the New York City Metropolitan Museum of Art. This early 1990s piece was also worn by none other than the Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. The silk-lined jacket features three large CC logo buttons that cover a hidden front zipper.
Abell will also be offering a Zandra Rhodes silk and lace cocktail dress at the upcoming spring auction. Rhodes is a British designer who is credited for helping revolutionize the London fashion scene in the 1970s. She studied at the Royal College of Art and the Medway College of Art, specializing in textile design; the influence of Rhodes’ studies are apparent in her embroidery-like designs. Rhodes’ mother was a fitter at a Paris fashion house and a professor at the Medway school Zandra attended. In 1969 Rhodes opened her own shop in a fashionable London neighborhood, where her early designs were considered much too flamboyant for conservative London designers. However, Rhodes’ popularity rose in 1977 due to her take on punk fashion, which she called “Conceptual Chic.”
Zandra Rhodes went on to design for Princess Dianna and other members of royalty and celebrities, and even designed costumes from Freddie Mercury and Brian May of Queen. In 1995 Rhodes established a studio in California and started an interior design business. She also helped found the Fashion & Textile museum in London, which opened in May 2003.
Highlighted handbags in the upcoming luxury sale include a Chanel tortoise resin evening bag. This design is a very rare 1990s rectangular structured box purse with a hinged opening and long gold-tone snake chain strap. The CC logo can be seen on top, and a “Chanel 97” Made in France is stamped inside. These lots and others can be previewed the week before the luxury sale, stay tuned to hear about more updates.
