Trust Estates and Appraisals
Overview
Abell handles the sale of fine and decorative art, fine jewelry, modern and antique furnishings, and other valuable consignments with absolute privacy and professionalism. Located in the nation’s second-largest market, our weekly auctions and quarterly fine art and antique sales draw an international audience of live and online bidders.
Entrusted with notable consignments and collections for a century, we handle every need. Our specialists include accredited appraisers, jewelry and gem experts, and Cantonese- and Mandarin-speaking translators to accommodate our diverse clientele.
Abell aggressively markets auction items through a combination of print and digital strategies. Consumers have the opportunity to preview items days or weeks in advance. Exposing valuable assets to a wider audience leads to higher returns for sellers.
We are honored to serve a broad spectrum of clients:
Private individuals
- Auction items are exposed to a larger and more informed audience, drawing the highest price.
- Items are often priced incorrectly at an estate sale, selling for less than their value or not at all.
Corporations
- Auctions attract an audience of live and international buyers.
- Estate sales are generally attended by only a few favored dealers, friends and neighbors.
Museums
- Buyers can preview auctions from a day to weeks in advance.
- At estate sales, only friends of the organizer can preview.
Educational Institutions
- An auction house is a bonded business subject to all local and state laws and taxation.
- Estate sale organizers are not regulated by any local or state entity.
Non-Profit organizations
- Auctions are an open and transparent process, with accredited appraisals and a detailed accounting accepted by all courts and the IRS.
- Unsold estate sale items are usually donated or sold to a liquidator for a bulk price.

W9 Requirement
Abell Auction is required by law to issue all consignors with a transactional value over $600 per calendar year, a Form 1099-K which includes the gross amount of all paid out transactions and will not include any adjustments, for example, credits, discounts, fees, refunds, reconciliation, or any other adjustable amounts. This means that the gross amount reported on your Form 1099-K may not be the final reportable amount on your tax return.
