(Los Angeles, Calif. – Nov. 15, 2022) Abell Auction Co. is pleased to present important 20th Century Design on November 29, appealing to collectors and connoisseurs of art, furniture and fine luxury goods. Live bidding for the online auction starts at 9 a.m. PDT.
A strong representation of furnishings by Hans Wegner, Knoll, Eames, Herman Miller, Sam Maloof, Alvaar Alto, Finn Juhl, Roche Bobois and other prominent designers will be offered. Highlights include a Jorge Zalzupin Rosewood Desk ($9,000-$12,000); Samuel Solomon Maloof reading stand ($5,000-$10,000); Finn Juhl poet settee ($4,000-$6,000); Charles and Ray Eames “Billy Wylder” Lounge ($2,000-$3,000); and Walter Lamb chaise lounge ($2,000-$3,000) and other designer outdoor furniture.
The sale also will present fine original works of art by Mr. Brainwash, Saul Steinberg, Donald Evans, Laddie John Dill, Andre Von Morrise, Curtis Jere and others. Highlights include Mr. Brainwash “Subway Panel, 2016” ($80,000-$120,000); Saul Steinberg untitled watercolor ($10,000-$15,000); and Donald Evans “Sabot 1925. Dirigible Post.” ($4,000-$6,000).
Prints and multiples by Marc Chagall, Rufino Tamayo, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Erté, Sister Mary Corita Kent, Yaacov Agam and others will be among the auction’s unique offerings. Highlights include Andy Warhol “Cow” ($8,000-$12,000); Pablo Picasso Madoura Chouette pottery piece ($12,000-$18,000); Marc Chagall “L' Ange Au Chandelier” ($6,000-$8,000); Neil Leifer Muhammad Ali aerial shot ($3,000-$5,000); and Roy Lichtenstein “Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games” ($2,000-$3,000).
Other decorative art and notable items include a Charles and Ray Eames folding screen ($1,000-$2,000); Dale Patric Chihuly white jade Persian set ($6,000-$8,000); and Franco Rocco Scaccomatto chess set ($1,500-$2,000).
An auction preview will be held from November 14 to 28 (weekdays only) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Abell gallery (2613 Yates Ave. in Los Angeles).
