The Estate of Paul Anthony Mitchell

Items from estate of former professional football player to be featured in Abell’s upcoming fine art sale. Mr. Mitchell was the 6th oldest living former professional football player at the time of his passing.

 

Abell Auction Co. is proud to represent the estate of Mr. Paul Anthony Mitchell, a former All-American football player and long-time resident of Palos Verdes, Los Angeles. Mitchell was born in Minnesota in 1920, and at the time of his passing he was the 6th oldest living former professional football player. Mitchell played college football at the University of Minnesota, where he later became a member of the University of Minnesota Hall of Fame. After graduating, Mitchell played two seasons with the Los Angeles Dons and two more with New York Yanks, both of which are teams that are no longer in existence.

Mitchell married his college sweetheart and University of Minnesota cheerleader, Ingrid Vallo, who was also Miss Minnesota and a Powers model. During World War II Mitchell worked in the Navy as a Lieutenant. After his retirement from football, Mitchell worked for the Garrett Corporation, until his retirement in 1985 as vice president. He later went on to form the Palos Verdes Enterprises Corporation, a real estate management company.

Mitchell is remembered for his involvement in civic charities, including coaching Pop Warner football, serving on the board of directors of the Palos Verdes national bank, and patronizing artist.

Pieces from the Paul Mitchell estate will be featured in Abell Auction Company’s February 11th sale. Highlights include a signed and numbered print by Marc Chagall, a bronze plaque by Robert Graham, and a a signed and numbered woodcut print by Edvard Munch. These pieces from the Paul Mitchell estate will go up for auction on February 11th at the Abell Auction Company gallery.
