The Estate Of Louis and Annette Kaufman

Louis and Annette Kaufman were renowned classical musicians with a true passion for collecting art. Moving from Portland to New York in the 1920’s Louis immersed himself in the world of contemporary art establishing lasting relationships with dealers and emerging artists such as David Burliuk, Louis Eilshemius, Noguchi and most importantly Milton Avery.  This passion for collecting exciting new artists followed to the many places visited such as San Francisco, Paris, New York, Thailand, Cambodia, etc.  Today, gifts from their collection are an integral part of the collections of institutions such as The National Gallery of Art, The Phillips Collection, The University of Wisconsin and Oberlin College.  Abell is honored to offer the art that has remained in the Kaufman’s personal collection.  Over the next several months we will be selling American paintings by David Park, Louis Eilshemius Raimonds Staprans, James Gill, Jacques Vilon, Othon Friesz, Maximilien Luce, Maxime Maufra, Guillamin, Jean Pougny and others.  Our weekly auctions will feature primitive painters such as Hinson Cole and Alexander Lebduska, as well as contemporary artists such as Antonio Guanse, Yves Saint-Front, John Kjargaard, Castagno, Rosso and 100’s of others.
