Palm Spring Modernism Week & Mid-Century Modern Pieces at Abell

The annual Palm Spring event celebrates mid-century modern design, art, architecture, fashion and culture. Abell’s weekly auction this Thursday, February 22nd features a great assortment of mid-century design pieces as well.

Modernism week is an annual festival held in the Palm Springs area of Southern California that encourages the appreciation of mid-century design. By promoting education, preservation and sustainable modern living, the event aims to showcase the forward-thinking ways of the visionaries who founded the movement more than half a century ago. This year’s event takes place from February 15th to the 25th, and includes more than 350 events that range from walking and double-decker bus tours, to films, lectures, home tours, parties and live music. Tickets are still available and can be purchased or reserved here.

This year’s highlights include parties thrown at the former houses of Frank Sinatra and Dinah Shore, a vintage car show, and an architectural and design film series that will screen more than 20 feature films. Many new events have been added, including a self-driven tour of mid-century inspired churches, lectures on landscaping tips, and a newly restored 1966 tennis estate that was designed by the legendary Palm Springs architect Albert Frey.

For those who cannot make it out to the desert this week, Abell Auction Co. will be offering an assortment of mid-century furniture, furnishings and art at the weekly Thursday auction on February 22, 2018.
